Olympic Medallists from Team GB have come together with partner NatWest to give a rousing team talk aimed at inspiring the nation to take action towards their goals.
With just over 100 days to go before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, NatWest have released a team talk which features sports stars including Sir Chris Hoy, Max Whitlock MBE and Helen Glover MBE to help inspire Brits to stay on track when it comes to achieving their goals – be they financial, personal or professional.
The project follows new research* commissioned by NatWest amongst 2,000 British adults which pinpointed April as the month when the majority of people who have set resolutions for the year lose motivation.
Amongst those resolutions, financial goals (21%) are one of the most popular for Brits, alongside the likes of getting fitter (35%) and becoming healthier (30%).
The top ten goals set this year by British adults are:
1. Getting fitter (35%)
2. Becoming healthier (30%)
3. Spending more time with family and friends (23%)
4. Travelling (23%)
5. Financial goals (21%)
6. Reducing debt (16%)
7. Becoming more organised (14%)
8. Work/life balance (14%)
9. Spend time on mental wellbeing (14%)
10. Having more flexible income to spend on treats (12%)
Overall, sadly 43% of Brits expect they won’t achieve their goals this year. When it comes to financial aims, despite over half of British adults (56%) saying that improving their financial situation is what motivates them the most in life, two-thirds (67%) have given up on financial resolutions by 1st April – and 80% of us will have given up on them by the end of that month.
Regarding the blockers to achieving their financial goals this year, 16% of Brits put this down to setting unrealistic goals, 10% said laziness, 8% lack of motivation and 7% said too many distractions.
Olympic medallists Sir Chris Hoy, Helen Glover MBE, Max Whitlock OBE, Emily Campbell and Beth Shriever MBE teamed up to share their own secrets for success with the nation as part of the NatWest team talk, which they are hoping will inspire the nation, as well as the athletes representing Team GB in Paris this summer.
The inspirational video sees the athletes urging us to get going and start pursuing our goals, however small they be. Sir Chris Hoy issues a rallying cry for us all to make the first move on following our dreams, stating that “Nobody can do it for you”, and that as “tomorrow begins today, let’s get going’”.
The team talk is available on YouTube and via https://www.natwest.com/teamgb.html.
Sir Chris Hoy, six-time Olympic champion, said:
“As a professional athlete, I know first-hand the significant role motivation plays in achieving your goals.”
“During my training for each of the Olympic Games, my coach's words of encouragement and the unwavering support of the entire nation were a huge part of my motivation. Whatever your goals are, we wanted to be part of the Team Talk to inspire you to get there – just like the way our coaches inspired us. That's why I've teamed up with Team GB partner NatWest and a whole load of other incredible athletes - so whatever your goals are, you have the motivation to strive for the finish line.”
Marg Jobling, NatWest Chief Marketing Officer, said:
“As Team GB’s official banking partner, we are incredibly excited to be supporting the athletes headed to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. As well as getting behind Team GB, we’re hoping to inspire people across the nation to both come together to support the team as well as get going to reach their own goals.
“Our Team GB athletes are hugely inspiring, so we hope their words and experiences can help motivate the nation. Whatever your goals - let’s get going.”
