Following last year’s successful online advent calendar, this year we’re showcasing a different business across the UK, every day, in the run up to Christmas.
From gift shops and beauty products to bakeries and chocolatiers, the Christmas countdown is celebrating everything that makes Britain’s independent businesses so special.
The first to take the spotlight on December 1 is the vegan skincare & wellness brand LBB Skincare based out of Putney. Launched by seasoned investment banker Nnenna Onuba with high performing natural and vegan ingredients to quickly and easily rejuvenate mind and body.
Nnenna says: “This year has been a minefield, an uncertain time for everyone, that’s been difficult to plan for. However, it's also been a good time to experiment - especially for a business as young as LBB. We’ve pretty much been in a constant try, learn, adapt loop and it's still going. Beauty as a whole has taken a hit – but we’ve been fortunate that demand for skincare and wellness has been a bit more resilient. Nonetheless, it’s been a difficult year.”
She adds: “This year more than ever it is critical for people to support small businesses. Enterprise is the backbone of this country and every time I see another Closing Down sign - my heart breaks. As consumers we have to rally and support our independent businesses with our wallets.”
LBB skincare has been supported by NatWest Business Inclusion Programme Manager Sharniya Ferdinand.
She says: “Our 12 Days of Christmas event, which is running for the second year, is about celebrating the amazing work of the independent retailers who make work tirelessly throughout the year and bring so much creativity and diversity to our economy. That is why we’re really proud to support these businesses and just as importantly, the people behind them.”
