NatWest Group colleagues were also recognised for their achievements, with the climate team receiving the highly commended award in the ‘Sustainability Team of the Year’ category, and the bank’s electric vehicle partnership with Octopus Energy was highly commended as ‘Transport Project of the Year’.
Now in their eleventh year, the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards are the UK’s most prestigious green business awards, showcasing the most recent achievements of the ever-expanding green business community.
Alison Rose, NatWest Group chief executive officer, said:
“This award recognises the efforts of colleagues across the bank in helping to tackle climate change. As the UK’s leading business bank, and one of the largest for retail customers, we have made addressing the climate challenge – and supporting our customers through the transition to net zero – a key strategic priority.
“I am particularly proud of the partnerships we are building, as we collaborate with peers and governments on initiatives such as the Net Zero Banking Alliance, of which we are a founding member, and our support of COP26, of which we are the banking sponsor. It is vital that we use our significant convening power and knowledge to work with others in order to achieve our climate ambitions.”
The judges said that Alison had firmly embedded climate action at the core of the bank’s strategy and introduced a host of measures to help ensure the financial sector delivers on the net zero transition.
