Giving Tuesday is a global day of doing good which encourages people to celebrate charitable causes, generosity and giving. Take a look at some highlights of how our colleagues and customers have supported causes they care about so far in 2024:
Payroll Giving
We encourage our colleagues to sign up to our Payroll Giving – a UK scheme which provides a simple, tax-efficient way for employees to make regular and one-off donations to charity direct from their salary. We’re proud that colleagues have donated over £1.6 million through the scheme so far in 2024.
Additionally, if a UK colleague signs up for Payroll Giving or increases their current donation by 31 December 2024, we’ll give them a charity donation of £100 which they can then donate to charities of their choice.
Team GB Baton Relay
This summer, our colleagues took part in our Team GB Baton Relay from Inverness to Folkestone. It aimed to connect our people with our communities, helping them to fundraise for the charities they’re passionate about while bringing our Team GB partnership to life for our colleagues, customers and communities.
228 colleagues traversed across the four UK home nations, covering over 1,100 miles through the power of a diverse range of Olympic sports. This included cycling, running, walking, sailing, surfing, horse riding, rowing and swimming. Along the route, our colleagues were joined by four Team GB Olympians and supported by our ExCo leaders. The activity raised over £100,000 for charities our colleagues care about, creating positive impacts in our communities.
Volunteering
Our colleagues get three days volunteering leave per year, which we encourage them to use to support causes close to their hearts. So far in 2024, colleagues have volunteered almost 100,000 hours assisting on a wide range of programmes, including our Thrive education programme for young people, our Financial Foundations workshops for adults, and the rejuvenation of local community spaces through The Conservation Volunteers Programme, where we’ve planted over 12,000 trees. In partnership with The Conservation Volunteers, we also launched the Gogarburn Tree Nursery, which aims to leave a legacy of native species.
Heading into the festive season, our colleagues will support causes that especially resonate at this time of year, including taking part in the anti-homelessness charity Social Bite’s Festival of Kindness and volunteering with food collections for local foodbanks.
Do Good Feel Good
Our ‘Do Good Feel Good’ programme encourages colleagues to support something they’re passionate about. In the past year they’ve donated and fundraised over £2.6 million for good causes. In September, colleagues across Edinburgh, Belfast, Manchester and London took part in an Olympic-themed fundraising challenge, which saw them take on a static triathlon.
They worked together to run, cycle and row the distance between the Team GB Headquarters in London to Paris, the host of the 2024 Olympics, collectively covering 3,884 miles (that’s from London to Paris over 13 times!) Hundreds of colleagues joined in with our live events, and hundreds more took on self-organised fundraising activities for good causes. Together, they raised over half a million pounds (and counting) for charities close to their hearts.
