Meet Lauren, a marketing manager for Royal Bank of Scotland International. Lauren's taking part in our Team GB baton relay to raise money for her best friend's son.

I’ve been an avid runner all my life. I have completed three London Marathons and raised thousands for good causes. I took a break for a few years and turned my fitness to spinning and the gym. In 2017, I had my first daughter – but after a great pregnancy I developed post-natal anxiety.

I didn't know who to turn to at the time but the one thing I did know that would always be there for me was the pavements. So, I dusted off my running shoes, dug deep and reignited my love for pounding the pavements; it was, and still is my therapy.

When I run, I allow my mind to deal with the mental plates that are spinning and when I return home, I’m ready to face the day as a mum to my two little girls.

When I run, I allow my mind to deal with the mental plates that are spinning.

I’m running the NatWest Team GB Baton Relay and fundraising for my best friend's little boy, Dylan, who is three years old and has cerebral palsy, vision impairment and global development delay as a result of a bleed on the brain when he was born at 30 weeks.

Recently Dylan said his first word: ‘mumma’ and it is safe to say there were no dry eyes in the house.

I’m setting off on the baton relay to help raise money for Dylan to receive as much physio, equipment, and alternative therapies above and beyond what the NHS can offer.

His family are very grateful to the NHS and all the professionals involved in helping him. However, the NHS can only offer Dylan one hour of physio every few months and a block of one-hour sessions for four weeks once a year – that is just not enough.

I’m setting off on this run to help raise money for Dylan to receive as much physio, equipment, and alternative therapies above and beyond what the NHS can offer.

The longer that Dylan’s parents can keep these therapies going, the more Dylan is more likely to become independent and reach his full potential.
