This private bank was established in about 1780 as T Kinnersly by Thomas Kinnersly, a local iron and coal master. It was also known as Newcastle & Staffordshire Bank and as Old Bank.
The business was called Thomas Kinnersly & Son by 1812 and Thomas Kinnersly & Sons by 1822. It was acquired by National Provincial Bank of England in 1855.
